RESTORATION PROJECT RELEASES REMADE SUNDAY SCHOOL SONGS ALBUM
Kickstarter-Funded Project Celebrates with Sing-Along at Graham’s 318 on March 6th
Chicago, IL—Hymn-Writing collective Restoration Project will celebrate the release of their “Firm Foundation Volume 1” EP with a sing-along party at Graham’s 318 on March 6th from 7-9 PM. View the Facebook Event Page for updates and to RSVP.
Funded with Kickstarter this past September, the group’s two-EP “Firm Foundation” series features remade Sunday School songs with modern arrangements and added lyrics, bringing greater theological depth and clarity to classics like “This Little Light of Mine,” Jesus Loves Me,” and “Michael Row Your Boat Ashore.”
The campaign was a huge success for Restoration Project, the Chicago area, and the Fox Valley. With the help of the community and national and international modern hymn enthusiasts, as well as the hymn-writing community, Restoration Project raised over $11,000 in just 30 days, making it one of the area’s largest successful Kickstarter campaigns in 2013.
“This album series would not have happened without the generosity of some incredible local donors, including a number of businesses. Thank you,” says founding member, Jay Mathes. Among those stand-out organizations include: Bare & Hatchet apparel, Graham’s 318 Coffeehouse, Idiot Pull screen printing, Redeemer Fellowship, and Schmanke Media.
March 6th marks the official release of Restoration Project’s “Firm Foundation Volume 1” EP, which will be available for purchase at their Graham’s 318 event, as well as on iTunes and from their website, resproj.com. Graham’s 318 is located at 318 S. Third St in Geneva, IL.
Restoration Project started in 2007 as a ministry of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, under the direction of then College Pastor Jay Thomas. Today, the Project’s core consists of a handful of volunteer songwriters and musicians from all over the country (many live in and around Chicago, including the Fox Valley) who are dedicated to writing new hymns and restoring the old by taking historical texts and poems and writing new melodies and music for them. You can find many of them today at Redeemer Fellowship in Saint Charles on Sunday mornings.
Restoration Project aims to revitalize a mostly unused, unheard of, outstanding, historical catalog of Christian hymns so that they can “glorify God, edify the church, and share Jesus” with those around them. “Firm Foundation Volume 1” marks the third release from the collective. Previous releases include “Restoration Project” (2008) and “Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope” (2011).
The group also regularly leads hymn-sing events in the greater Chicago area. View their upcoming event schedule: http://resproj.com/tour.
