Written for a sermon series on Philippians preached by Jay S. Thomas, while College Pastor at College Church, Wheaton, IL.

It’s my eager expecting and hope of no shame,
but that with full courage now as always
Christ will be honored by life or by death.
Christ is to live, my death, to bless.

Do nothing from rivalry or from conceit
but in humility, love and concede.
Let not one look to his own interests,
but to the brethren for their best.

For we are the real circumcision of God
By Spirit, glory, in Jesus our Lord.
Confidence we do not put in the flesh.
Christ is our joy – our righteousness.

Forgetting what lies behind – straining ahead –
Press toward the goal for which Christ’s blood was shed.
Not of my own, but faith given by God,
sets my soul free where angels trod.

By God’s grace we’ll partner to share the good news.
Eternal life saints can never refuse.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true,
dwell on these things to live them through.
